The Benefits of Protein

Protein is an important component of your body’s cellular make up. It’s a macronutrient building block of bones, muscles, cartilage, skin, hair, nails, and blood. However, the body doesn’t store protein like it does other macronutrients such as fat and carbohydrates. Therefore, it must be ingested.

Recommended Dietary Allowance

The U.S. government sets the recommended dietary allowance (RDA). The RDA for protein starts at 0.8 grams per kilogram (0.4 grams per pound) of body weight per day for sedentary people and increases along with increasing levels of activity. So, it stands to reason, if you are an active person, you need more.  The International Society of Sports Nutrition (ISSN) states,
“Higher protein intakes (2.3-3.1 g/kg/d) may be needed to maximize the retention of lean body mass in resistance-trained subjects during hypocaloric periods. There is novel evidence that suggests higher protein intakes (>3.0 g/kg/d) may have positive effects on body composition in resistance-trained individuals (i.e., promote loss of fat mass). Recommendations regarding the optimal protein intake per serving for athletes to maximize MPS are mixed and are dependent upon age and recent resistance exercise stimuli. General recommendations are 0.25 g of a high-quality protein per kg of body weight, or an absolute dose of 20-40 g. Acute protein doses should strive to contain 700-3000 mg of leucine and/or a higher relative leucine content, in addition to a balanced array of the essential amino acids (EAAs).”1

 Choose Your Proteins Wisely

Not all sources of this macronutrient are equal. Sure, you can get this nutrient from hot dogs, but at the cost of consuming processed meat. For Granite Supplements’ Protein powder, we’ve done our homework. We’ve sourced our high-quality product from milk (whey concentrate, micellar casein, whey isolate), grass-fed beef, and eggs—rich in leucine and EAAs.

It’s the Little Things

The bottom line: Protein is Muscle Food. You should be supplementing your muscles with it. But, at Granite Supplements, we’ve also thought of the little things such as:

  • Unlike other products on the market, our Protein is easy on your system because we include protease enzymes for digestive support.
  • Our beef is sourced from cows in Sweden in a hormone-free, antibiotic-free, non-GMO, grass-fed environment under strict EU animal health regulations.
  • It does have small amounts of fat and lactose, which gives it a nice creamy texture and taste.
  • We offer three great flavors: Vanilla, Chocolate, and Salted Caramel

We know you are going to love this product, and we can’t wait to hear about your results!
